Although when you’re at Broadwater Lodge, the world seems a million miles away, there’s a variety of attractions within a few miles.
Shopping
Longville, about four miles east of Broadwater Lodge, offers gift shops, restaurants, stores, medical care and worship facilities. Every Wednesday, First Street in Longville becomes the Turtle Racing Capital of the World. Kids bring their own turtle or rent one and compete for fame and fortune.
Hackensack is located 16 miles to the west and also offers shopping and dining.
Chippewa National Forest
About five miles due north of Broadwater Lodge, the Chippewa National Forest was the first national forest established east of the Mississippi. It stretches across 1.6 million acres of aspen, birch, pines, balsam fir and maples with 1,300 lakes, 923 miles of rivers, and nearly a half-million acres of wetlands. Camping is available in 21 established campgrounds. There are 160 miles of hiking trails and over 300 miles of canoe trails.
Deep Portage Conservation Reserve
A couple of miles southwest of Woman Lake is the Deep Portage Conservation Reserve, a community-based educational outreach program located on 6,100 acres of lakes, streams, and bogs. The reserve offers hiking and mountain-biking trails. Several trails have accompanying interpretive self-guides teaching visitors about natural history, geology, forest and wildlife management, and bogs. A naturalist is on duty in the interpretive center. The center offers educational activities throughout the season.
Golf
Enjoy golfing at Longbow and Tianna golf courses, all located within a short distance of Broadwater Lodge. We’ll be glad to arrange tee times for you.
Tennis
There are well-maintained public tennis courts in Longville and Hackensack.
